Baseball Drops Pair of USA South Games Against Maryville

EMERSON, GA – The Greensboro College Pride baseball team returned to the diamond on Sunday afternoon. The Pride traveled to take on the Scots of Maryville College in a double header, and despite having early leads in both contest the Pride fell by scores of 10-7 and 7-4.

In the first game of the double header, Greensboro jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when J.P Lisk came around to score on a Andrew Toney ground out.

Once Greensboro jumped out to the one run lead, Maryville was able to score the game's next nine runs to take a 9-1 lead into the top half of the fourth inning.

Greensboro then scored in the fourth inning as Kristopher Taveras was able scamper home to pull Greensboro to within a 9-2 count.

Maryville then answered back with one more run before Greensboro plated the games final  five runs falling by a 10-7 count.

Kristopher Peeden took the loss on the mound for the Pride.

In the second game of the double dip, Greensboro got on the board first with two runs in the top half of the second inning. Andrew Ray and Andrew Hernandez each came across the plate to put the Pride on top.

For the second game in a row the big inning got to the Pride.  With Greensboro on top of the Scots, Maryville plated seven runs over the fourth and fifth innings to pull out to a 7-3 lead.

Greensboro was able to muster up one final run, but it was not enough as they fell by a 7-4 mark.

Adam Murry took the loss in the game for the Pride.

Brandon Soden led the way in the second game with two hits while Gwynn Thompson, Cody York, Kyle Williard, and Andrew Ray each recorded one hit a piece.

With the pair of losses, Greensboro falls to 5-3 overall on the season and 5-3 in conference play. The Pride baseball team will return to action tomorrow afternoon for the final game of the three game set with the Scots. First pitch is set for 1:00 PM.
