GREENSBORO, NC – The Greensboro College baseball team swept a two game double dip on Saturday afternoon against the Cougars of Averett University. The Pride won game one 4-0 behind a complete game by freshman pitcher Adam Murray before topping the Cougars 15-7 in game two.
In the first game Andrew Toney, J.P Lisk, and Jordan Powell each recorded an RBI.
Murray finished the game on the mound for the Pride with three strike outs while only allowing eight Cougar hitters to reach base.
In the second game of the double header, Greensboro College busted the game wide open in the third inning with seven runs pushing the score to 10-0.
The ten run second and third inning was highlighted with a bases clearing triple by Pride shortstop Jordan Powell to dead center field.
After the Pride jumped out in front big, Greensboro was able to add five more runs while Averett scored five runs in the seventh inning in play but it was not enough to overcome the Pride.
Jeff Waring tossed six and one third innings of ball giving up four runs to earn the victory. Brian Robbett and Wil McGuire accounted for the remaining two and two thirds innings.
"I am very proud of our guys with their performance today bouncing back from the dispointing loss last night," Pride Head Coach Jonathan Nichols said following the games. "The guys showed a lot of heart and I cannot put into words the how the pitchers performed especially Adam (Murray). I am excited about winning our second consecutive series, but now we have to turn the page to Wednesday afternoon."
With the two wins, Greensboro improves their overall record to 5-1 on the season and 5-1 in USA South Athletic Conference. The Pride baseball team is set to return to Ted Leonard Park on Wednesday afternoon against the Wasps of Emory & Henry. The game is set to get underway at 3:00 PM.
