Pride Women's Basketball Win Streak Snapped At Eight

FERRUM, VA – The Greensboro College Pride women's basketball team took their eight game winning streak on the road on Wednesday night to take on the Panthers of Ferrum College. Despite a strong start for the Pride, the Panthers pulled away in the second half for a 82-74 win to snapping the Greensboro's streak at eight.

The Pride opened the first two minutes of play on a 10-3 to take a seven point advantage.  Senior Shanita Hampton scored the game's first five points before Alexis Hite capped of the opening run with her first three ball of the night.

Once Greensboro established the lead, Ferrum was able to fight back with a 15-3 run of their own to take the lead from the Pride at 18-13 with 12:15 to play in the opening period.

Over the final ten minutes of the half, the Panthers extend their lead to fifteen points at 43-28 before Tiffani Stephens and Syerra Troutman scored the final four points of the half to send Greensboro into the break trailing 43-32.

Following the intermission period, Ferrum was able to extend their advantage to 64-43 with 10:57 to play in the contest.

After falling behind by the twenty-one point margin, Greensboro was able to pull back to within eleven points at 69-58 following a 15-4 run. During the run for the Pride, Shanita Hampton accounted for six points while Kerstin Winston chipped in one shot from long range.

Later in the period, Greensboro was able to cut the deficit to 80-73 following a layup in the paint by Hampton, but Ferrum proved to be too much snapping the Greensboro streak at eight.

"We really had a chance to come into tonight's game and put some distance between ourselves and the rest of the division," Pride Head Coach Randy Tuggle said following the game. "Now following the loss we are in a dog fight till the end."

Shanita Hampton led the Pride in the scoring collum with 24 points while Joslyn Spires and Alexis Hite finished the night with 11 points each.  Syerra Troutman pulled down a team high eight rebounds.

With the loss, the Pride women fall to 16-4 overall and 11-3 in USA South Athletic Conference play. The Pride women will return to Mayo C. Harlow Memorial Court on Saturday afternoon when the Battling Bishops of North Carolina Wesleyan come to town. The game is set to get underway at 4:00 PM.
