GREENSBORO, NC – The Greensboro College men's soccer team completed the afternoon sweep of Averett University on the newly constructed Pride Field on Saturday afternoon. Greensboro got on the board in the fourth minutes of play and did not look back as they defeated the Cougars 5-0.
Greensboro took a 1-0 lead just over three minutes into the contest.
Craig Gage, after hitting the cross bar just seconds before, found the back of the net after placing a shot into the upper left had corner of the goal frame for his second goal of the season.
As play continued in the first half, midfielder,
Scott Fatyol was able to record his first goal of the season off a header to send Greensboro into the intermission period with a 2-0 lead.
After the break, Greensboro continued to dominate the pace of play.
The Pride got two goals from
Shaun Watt just four minutes into the second period to extend their margin to 4-0 before
Nate Gage scored the final goal of the game in the 80
th minute to give Greensboro the 5-0 victory.
Morgan Stevenson,
Craig Gage, and
Aameen Goyal each recorded an assist on the three second half goals.
"I was happy with our team's performance today as they showed a lot of effort and intensity," stated Head Coach
Tony Falvino following the game. "As a team we were glad to open up our new home turf facility with a win."
Greensboro was able to control the game from start to finish as they outshot the Cougars by a 20-5 mark with 11 of their 20 shots going on the goal frame.
Shaun Watt led the way for Greensboro with five shots on frame while
Craig Gage and
Carlos Barragan each recorded two.
Jamie Payamps (1 save) picked up the win between the pipes for Greensboro after playing the first 74 minutes before turning over the goal crease to
Chandler Pribble.
The Greensboro College men's soccer team (4-4-1, 1-0-1 USA South) will return to the field next Saturday afternoon when they travel to take on the Panthers of LaGrange College.
