ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – The Greensboro College football team fell to the Battling Bishops of North Carolina Wesleyan 61-36 Saturday.
Greensboro scored first when quarterback
Mac Graham connected with
Raymond Bridges from 26 yards out in the first quarter to put the Pride on top 6-0.
Ryan Campbell's extra point made it 7-0.
After the Bishops cut the lead to 7-3, Graham connected with Bridges once again to push the advantage out to 13-3.
However, Wesleyan battled back to take their first lead of the game at 16-13 with just over 14 minutes to play in the opening half.
Later in the quarter, Greensboro regained the lead. On a second-and-goal from the 2-yard line,
Cortez Vernon found the end zone to give the lead back to Greensboro at 20-16 following the point after attempt.
Wesleyan regained the lead at 23-20, but
Ryan Campbell connected on a 21-yard field goal to send the game into the intermission break tied at 23.
In the second half, the Bishops scored 14 unanswered points before Greensboro capped a 64-yard drive with a rushing touchdown by
Mac Graham.
Ryan Campbell then added the point after to cut the Pride deficit to seven points at 37-30.
As the third quarter ticked away,
Cortez Vernon pulled the Pride to within four points at 40-36, but the Pride could not get any closer, falling 61-36.
"Our offense did a great job putting points on the board," Head Coach
Bill Young said. "We have got to continue getting better at the point of attack, but we must put this one behind us and great ready for Huntingdon."
Graham finished the day with 417 yards through the air and two touchdowns.
Raymond Bridges had a team-high 187 yards receiving, while
Armani Williams recorded four catches for 129 yards.
Chase Sams,
Micah McMaster, and Joshua Armood each recorded nine total tackles.
