GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Greensboro College Pride fell 40-20 Saturday in football to USA South Conference foe Huntingdon College at Jamieson Stadium.

The Pride won the toss and elected to defer. The Hawks (7-1, 5-0 USA South) returned the opening kickoff 22 yards to their own 41-yard line, eventually scoring first on a 5-yard touchdown run by John Iwaniec.

The Hawks tacked on a safety with 3:36 in the first quarter before driving downfield for their second touchdown to increase the lead to 16-0.

With 13:51 remaining in the second quarter, the Pride completed a six-play, 73-yard drive for their first touchdown of the game. After a failed 2-point conversion, the Pride trailed 16-6.

After a couple of failed drives between both teams, the teams scored in a flurry to close the half.

Huntingdon quarterback Luke Bailey found Darius Dawsey in the end zone for a 2-yard touchdown pass to increase the Hawks' lead to 23-6 with 6:47 remaining in the first half.

On Greensboro's next drive,
Cortez Vernon broke free for a 65-yard touchdown run. The two-point conversion attempt failed, leaving the score 23-12.

With 2:20 left in the half, the Pride recovered a Huntingdon fumble on the Hawks' 13-yard line. After a 5-yard run by Vernon and a 15-yard personal-foul penalty, Greensboro faced third down and goal from the 16. Quarterback
Mac Graham found
Raymond Bridges for a touchdown pass, followed by a successful two-point rush attempt from Vernon to make the score 23-20 with 1:16 left in the half.

However, the Hawks again struck quickly with a 41-yard touchdown pass to Nick Haas, making the score 30-20 after the successful PAT to close the half.

Huntingdon's Vic Jerald rushed for a 1-yard touchdown with 8:45 remaining in the third quarter. The PAT made it 37-20 in favor of the Hawks. Chase Young tacked on a 23-yard field goal in the fourth quarter for the final score.

The Pride fell to 2-6 overall and 1-4 in conference play. The Pride faces Methodist University at 1 p.m. Nov. 7 in its final home game of the season.
