GREENSBORO, NC – The Greensboro College women's soccer team remained perfect on the newly constructed Pride field on Wednesday afternoon while also securing their fifth straight shutout. Despite coming out of the gate slow, the Pride women defeated the visiting women of William Peace University by a 2-0 mark.
After a scoreless first half of play, Greensboro was able to quickly find the back of the net to start the second half of play.
Amanda Foley was able to collect a pass from
Julyana Devonish and beat the Pacers keeper to the bottom right corner of the goal to put the Pride on top 1-0 just 45 seconds into the half.
With the clock ticking into the 87
th minute of play, Megan Cole gave Greensboro an insurance goal off an assist from
Melanie Raton. The goal by Cole was her fifth goal of the season while Raton tallied her fifth assist.
The Pride then kept William Peace off the board over the final three minutes of play to secure the shutout and 2-0 victory.
"I am really proud of our girls for going 3-0-1 over our four game stretch in seven days," Head Coach
Gus Mota said following the game. "The girls found a way to will it out over this very tough stretch. It has been an "All In" mentality and now our focus shifts to Ferrum on Saturday."
Greensboro dominated all aspects of the game while securing nine corner kicks and out shooting the Pacers by a 22-3 mark.
Megan Cole led the way for the Pride with four shots on goal while
Lauren Greeson,
Gabbriele Edinger,
Melanie Raton,
Amanda Foley, and
Keegan Bickel each recorded at least one shot on goal.
Brittany Morrison improved her record in goal for Greensboro to 9-1-1 after stopping the two shots that were sent on the goal frame by the Pacers.
The Pride (9-3-1, 4-2-1 USA South) will return to the pitch on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Ferrum, Virginia to take on the Panthers of Ferrum College in another USA South Athletic Conference showdown.
