RALEIGH, NC---The Pride women's soccer team (4-5-1, 2-2-1 USAS) dropped a contest to Meredith (8-3-1, 6-0 USAS) 3-0 on Saturday afternoon.
Greensboro came out strong putting three shots on target, but were saved by the Avenging Angels keeper. Meredith broke through in the 19th minute with the game's first goal taking a 1-0 lead. Down the stretch, the Pride put two more shots on frame but came up empty with the game heading into the break at 1-0.
In the first ten minutes of the new frame, Pride goalkeeper Jessica Thatcher made three huge saves keeping the margin at 1-0. The Avenging Angels tacked on two goals in the 61st and 62nd minute pushing out to the 3-0 advantage. Melanie Raton had a close scoring opportunity in the 71st minute but a Meredith defender was able to prevent it from going in. During the final ten minutes, both teams had two shots apiece, however the Pride fell 3-0.
The Pride were outshot 16-12 in the game but were even with shots on goal at 10-10. Allison Gibson led the way with four shots all coming on frame. Raton was close behind with three shots, two on goal. Thatcher ended the game with seven saves in goal.
Greensboro returns to action on Saturday October 11th when they welcome Huntingdon College. The kickoff will begin at 4:00 p.m. or 30 minutes following the conclusion of the men's game.
