Women's Soccer Knocks Off Huntingdon 4-1

GREENSBORO, NC---The Greensboro women's soccer team (5-5-1, 3-2-1 USAS) upended Huntingdon College (2-10 1-5 USAS) 4-1 on Saturday afternoon. The Pride scored three unanswered goals to pull away for the victory.

Greensboro started the game fast firing off nine shots before Lauren Greeson took a through ball from Samara Alba for the 1-0 lead in the 29th minute. During the last 11 minutes the Pride outshot their opponents 4-0 but the score remained 1-0 going into the halftime break.

The Hawks got their only goal of the game in the 49th minute knotting things up at 1-1. Ten minutes later in the 59th minute, Melanie Raton played a through ball through the defense that Greeson tapped around the keeper and buried in the left side of the net for her second goal of the game making it 2-1.

In the 64th minute, Alba crossed the ball from the right side of the field to Allison Gibson who beat the keeper pushing the lead to 3-1. The final goal came in the 79th minute when Amanda Foley volleyed in a corner from Meghan Cole, winning the game 4-1.

Greensboro held a 27-4 advantage on shots, and 11-0 shots on goal. The Pride also had eight corners to their opponent's one. Three players; Elizabeth Torres, Gibson, and Greeson led the way with four shots apiece. Jessica Thatcher picked up the win in goal for the Pride.

The Pride returns to action tomorrow on Pride Field when they welcome LaGrange College. The kickoff is scheduled for 3:00 P.M. or thirty minutes after the conclusion of the men's game.
