DANVILLE, Va.—Less than 24 hours after defeating cross town rival Guilford College on Tuesday night, the Pride volleyball team returned to USA South play against the Cougars of Averett University. The Pride fell in the match by a 3-1 count.

Averett took the opening set of the match 25-14, but the Pride was able to even the match at 1-1 after winning the second set of play.

The Cougars jumped out to an early 6-1 lead in the set, but the Pride was able to use a 6-1 run of their own to tie the set score at 7-7. Once Greensboro tied the score, the Cougars then pulled back out in front 11-7 but the Pride was able to fight back once again. The Pride was able to come back and take their first lead the set at 15-14 before going on to close out the set 26-24 to move the match to 1-1.

Averett then took the next two sets by scores of 25-18 and 25-19 to win the mach 3-1.

Shayla Moss led the way for Greensboro with 12 kills while Liz Widenhouse contributed 11 kills. Megan Baranko and Dallas Hasty also had good match adding nine and seven kills each. Bari Tressler passed for a team high 20 assists to go along with 16 by Darrian Bolt.

With the loss, the Pride volleyball team's overall record falls to 12-6 while falling to 4-2 in USA South Athletic Conference play. The Pride volleyball team will return to action on  Saturday afternoon as they travel to take on Piedmont College and Mary Baldwin in Demorest, GA. The match times are set for 2:00 and 4:00 PM.
