DEMOREST, GA—The Greensboro College Pride volleyball team returned to action on Saturday afternoon as they traveled to Piedmont College to take on the Lions as well as Mary Baldwin. The Pride got off to a fast start by defeating Mary Baldwin 3-0 to start the day before falling to Piedmont 3-0.
Greensboro College jumped out to an early lead against Mary Bladwin after using a 5-0 run to extend the lead to 5-1. Following a quick point by the Squirrells, the Pride used another 5-0 run to extend out to a 10-2 lead. Greensboro College was able to continue the early momentum to win set one 25-12.
In the second set of play, Mary Baldwin kept the game close but Greensboro took a 2-0 lead in the match winning the second set of play 25-23.
The Pride continued to play strong into the third set of play. With the score 15-12, Greensboro College used a 5-1 run to pull out to a 20-13 lead. Over the remainder of the set, both teams traded points back and forth with Greensboro College closing out the match with a 25-17 victory.
Dallas Hasty led the way for the Pride in the first match with 12 kills while Liz Widenhouse contributed 11 kills. Darrian Bolt passed for 21 assists with Bari Tressler adding 14.1
After defeating Mary Baldwin, the Pride fell in straight sets to Piedmont College 3-0.
Widenhouse recorded 23 kills in the second match, with Bolt adding 21 assists.
With the split, Greensboro College goes to 13-8 overall on the season and 5-4 in USA South play. The Pride will return to action on Wednesday evening at home against North Carolina Wesleyan. The first serve is set for 7:00 PM.
