After a stellar 4-year career for the Pride, Skylar Mathis joined the Pride in the fall of 2024 as an assistant coach. Mathis was a team captain, and influential leader, and was a versatile player for the Pride during her career, seeing substantial time in the back, midfield, and up top. "I'm thrilled that Skylar has agreed to join our staff for the Fall of 2024 as she is a well-respected leader and one of the hardest workers I have ever been around", stated Head Coach Mike Johnston. "Skylar will have a tremendous presence both on and off the field and will be involved not only in the day-to-day preparation within our program, but in leadership and culture cultivation as well".
Mathis graduated from Greensboro College in the Spring of 2024 with a B.S. in Biology and a minor in Chemistry. A Roanoke, VA native, Mathis starred at William Byrd High School and played club with Valley United. Mathis currently works as a CNA with Cone Health in the mother and baby unit and is deciding between nursing school and PA school for her future endeavors.
