Jennifer Black joins the Pride as an assistant coach in the fall of 2022 and will serve both as an assistant coach as well goalkeeper coach. “I’m thrilled that Jennifer has decided to join our staff. She is an experienced educator and coach, and has an extensive soccer background. She is also an outstanding role-model for our student-athletes and I’m excited to have her be a part of our group”, stated head coach Mike Johnston.
Black is currently an educator at Southwest Guilford High School, where she teaches physical education and Sports Medicine in addition to serving as department chair of physical education. She served as the head women’s soccer coach at Southwest Guilford from 2013-2016 and also has had successful head coaching stints Person High School and Grimsley High School.
As a collegiate athlete at UNC-Greensboro, Black was a 4-year starting goalkeeper for the Spartans and amassed many school records for her performance in net. She was named to the All-Southern Conference Tournament Team in 2003 and was twice named the Southern Conference Player of the Month (2003, 2005). In 2003, the Spartans won the Southern Conference Tournament Championship and Blacked helped guide her team to NCAA Tournament, where they defeated Wake Forest in their first round matchup. A native of Randolph, NJ, Black was a four-year starter at the high school level and starred for the Players Development Academy at the club level. She was twice accepted into the Soccer Plus Goalkeeper Advanced National Training Center at Nike Headquarters in Portland, Oregon.
Black currently resides in Greensboro with her husband Dave and their 3 children.
