Cale Matthews

Cale Matthews enters his second season as Greensboro College’s Receivers coach.

Prior to joining the coaching ranks, Matthews was a former receiver from 2018 to the 2023 for the Pride. He was a 4-year starter and earned 2nd Team All Conference receiver in ‘22. In his career, he recorded 114 catches for 1414 yards, with 7 passing and receiving touchdowns. He also was the first player in school history to score a touchdown on pride field while also getting his name in some school records. He also served as the Pride’s long snapper during his career and was the punt returner for his last 2 seasons, while participating in other special teams positions.

Also during his time at Greensboro, he was Nominated for National Society Of Leadership and Success (NSLS) and served as a  Member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

During his time at Greensboro, Matthews was able to do his internship with Coach Barnette, former NC A&T Offensive Coordinator where he was able to gain knowledge in professional practices at the Division l level. 

Following Matthews senior year, he was invited to participate in the 2022 Senior Classic sponsored by FreeAgentFootball in New York where he recorded 4 catches.

He graduated from Greensboro College with a B.A in Exercise and Sports Studies with a Sports Management track. While also Minoring in Business/Admin and Coaching.

Matthews played his high school football at South Johnston High School in Johnston County, NC. Also during this time he was a 2018 National Strength And Conditioning Association (NCSA) All-American Award Winner and was named athlete of the year the same year.

A native to Johnston County, NC. His mother and father, Jerry & Sherri Matthews reside in Johnston County as well. His Brother Maxton Barber resides in Raleigh, NC.
