Biography

2021 Spring: Started all three contests at wide receiver, posting a team-high 12 receptions for 209 yards and three touchdowns. He posted five catches for 89 yards and two touchdowns in the March 6 matchup against Methodist. Matthews cracked the 100-yard mark with a 102-yard effort on five catches and a touchdown in the April 3 game at Sewanee. Matthews as threw a 31-yard passing touchdown in the win against the Tigers.

2019: Played all ten games with nine starts at wide receiver, tied the team lead in receptions with 21 catches for 208 yards. His longest reception came in the September 14 game against Ferrum, a 52-yard catch. Matthews caught four passes for 34 yards in the November 9 game at Maryville.

2018: Appeared in eight contests where he posted 17 receptions for 141 yards. Matthews tallied six catches for 53 yards in the October 20 game at Methodist.

High School: Three-sport athlete at South Johnston, competing in basketball, football and track. Named Academic All-Conference.

Personal: Son of Jerry and Sherri Matthews. Majoring in Sports Management with a minor in Business and Coaching.

Favorite Athletic Moment: "Scoring the first touchdown on Pride Field in the school's history."
