Greensboro, NC — Greensboro College men's soccer (1-0) defeated Bluefield University (1-1) 2-1 on Tuesday night in their season opener. Greensboro outshot Bluefield 22-6, including 15-4 in the second half, and put eight shots on goal.
Oliver Randholm Luque scored an unassisted game-winning goal and finished with four shots, including two on goal.
Rodrigo Zegarra Perez-Quevedo added an unassisted game-tying goal and put three of his four shots on frame.
Jade Diane recorded four shots, matching Greensboro's team high.
Alvaro Arroyo played all 90 minutes in goal and made one save and was credited with the win.
Greensboro answered a first-half deficit at 34:45, when Zegarra Perez-Quevedo scored to bring the match to 1-1. Earlier, Greensboro continued to create pressure, with corners in the 16th, 25th and 30th minutes and a shot from Randholm Luque during that stretch. After Zegarra Perez-Quevedo's equalizer,
Thom Keasberry missed left of the goal and Zegarra Perez-Quevedo forced another save in the 43rd minute as the half ended tied 1-1.
Randholm Luque scored in the 64th minute to put Greensboro ahead 2-1, and the Pride protected that advantage through the end of the second half. Earlier, Greensboro pushed immediately after the break with shots from Diane and Zegarra Perez-Quevedo in the first three minutes, then added attempts from
Jalen King,
Armin Hasse and Diane before Randholm Luque's goal. Bluefield put together chances around that stretch, including two shots and two corners between the 56th and 62nd minutes and another shot in the 67th, but Greensboro did not concede. After taking the lead, Greensboro kept pressure on with Randholm Luque forcing a save in the 73rd minute,
Ryder Tormaschy putting another shot on frame moments later, and
Axel Garcia adding two late attempts before Greensboro closed out the 2-1 win.
