Greensboro, NC - Greensboro College Softball (9-7) traveled to Guilford (7-6-1) on Sunday afternoon and won both games of a doubleheader. Game one went the Pride's way 10-3 while they came from behind in game two to win 7-6.
Game One
Greensboro's bats were hot all game long in the first contest of the day, totaling 10 runs and 12 hits. The Pride scored three runs in the first inning and chased Quakers' starter Shiloh Gray. They scored another three runs in the second off the Guilford bullpen to go ahead 6-0.
They would score one run in the fourth and three more in the seventh to win in dominant fashion.
Raina Hampel shined in the circle, going 6.0 innings with 1 strikeout. At the plate,
Alexis Lynch went 4-4 with 3 RBI, while
Raven Taylor went 3-3 with an RBI and a walk.
Ella Ebert drove in two runs, while
Mason Browning came through with a key pinch-hit RBI off the bench.
Game Two
It was a full team effort in game two as Greensboro came from behind to win 7-6. Guilford scored the first four runs of the game in the second inning to go up 4-0. In the fourth,
Erica Chaney hit a three-run bomb to center field to trim the score to 4-3. The homer was Chaney's first of the season.
After the Quakers scored two in the bottom of the fourth, Greensboro scored three in the sixth to tie the game. In the seventh, Chaney came through again with the game-winning triple giving Greensboro the lead.
Anna Frazier would slam the door shut in the final frame to secure the win. Frazier improves to 4-3 in the circle with the victory.
Greensboro had six extra-base hits in this one. Chaney drove in four runs while Browning and
Olivia Hyatt drove in one each. With the win, Greensboro has won five of their last six games against Guilford.
Notes:
- Greensboro totaled 22 hits in the two games.
- Their 10 runs in game one is the most they have scored against Guilford since 3/20/2024 when they scored 14 runs.
