Atlanta, GA - It was a tough weekend for Greensboro College Baseball (6-4) as they dropped both games of a doubleheader on Sunday to Oglethorpe (3-3) and were swept 3-0 in the weekend series.
Game One:
Game one of the doubleheader saw the Petrels come from behind and win 8-7. After being down 4-2 in the fourth inning, Greensboro tied the game on a
Brayden Sands RBI groundout and an RBI double from
Shane Garrett.Â
They scored 3 more times in the fifth inning, including a two-run bomb by
Alex Vazquez, his second of the season. Leading 7-4 in the bottom of the eighth, Greensboro would give up 4 runs in the inning and wouldn't be able to tie the game in the ninth, falling 8-7.Â
Isaiah Ralls went 7.2 innings, giving up 4 earned runs and striking out 3.
Evan Sykes had 3 hits, all doubles, and 3 runs scored.Â
Game Two:
Greensboro fell behind early in the second game after giving up 3 first inning runs. The pitching staff held the Petrels to just the 3 runs until Greensboro got 2 runs back in the sixth after a
Trevor Testerman RBI single and an
Alex Vazquez sac fly RBI.Â
Unfortunately, Oglethorpe scored 3 runs in the seventh to essentially put the game away. Greensboro scored 1 more run in the eighth, but couldn't come up with anymore.
Notes:
-
Evan Sykes breaks the program record for doubles in a career, passing Kevin Mong for the all-time lead, which was 43.
