Greensboro, NC - Greensboro College Softball (3-1) took on Averett (1-1) in a midweek doubleheader on Wednesday. Averett took game one 2-1 while Greensboro won game two 1-0.
Game One:
Game one saw a pitcher's dual, as Averett's Hannah Zabik and Greensboro's
Raina Hampel squared off. Averett would score 2 runs in the top of the 5th inning that were charged to Hampel, and that would prove to be enough run support for Zabik.
Zabik went 6.0 innings, giving up 6 hits and 1 run. Hampel would get the loss, going 3.1 innings and giving up 2 runs.
Kenly Brown would pitch the final 3.2 innings for Greensboro.
Ella Ebert drove in the lone run for the Pride in the sixth inning with an RBI single.
Game Two:
It was another pitcher's dual in game two, but this time it was Greensboro who came out on top.
Anna Frazier would pitch a complete game shutout for her 2nd win of the season in the circle.Â
Frazier gave up 5 hits and 1 walk and 1 hit by pitch. The defense turned in a key triple play in the fifth inning to get out of a bases loaded, no out jam. She then got out of another bases loaded jam in the seventh to earn Greensboro their 3rd win of the season.
The game-winning run came in the bottom of the fifth when
Alexis Lynch got a successful bunt down on a squeeze play to score
Kylie Nerell. As a team, Greensboro totaled 3 hits for the game.
Notes:
- Through 4 games, Greensboro's team ERA is 0.50 in 28.0 innings.
- Freshman
Kenly Brown has not given up an earned run in each of her first two appearances this season.
