Greensboro, NC - It was a tough end to an exciting game for Greensboro College Men's Basketball (9-13, 5-6) as they would fall to Mary Baldwin (10-11, 4-7) on a buzzer-beating shot 70-69 Wednesday night.
Greensboro started strong, taking a 13-8 lead early on. They would later go up 32-21, but the Fighting Squirrels brought the score to 37-32 at the half.Â
The Greensboro offense wouldn't be as strong in the second half, and Mary Baldwin would capitalize. They took a 46-45 lead with 12:30 to go, and the teams would trade buckets most of the half. Down by five with 52 seconds left, Greensboro mounted a quick comeback, forcing multiple turnovers on the defensive end.
Will Gray would hit a layup with 7 seconds remaining, to put Greensboro up 69-68, but it was DJ Via who would drive down the floor and hit a wild turnaround jumper to win the game as time expired.
DJ Jackson led all players with 24 points. Gray finished with 22, while
Jeremiah Howard dominated the glass with a career high 16 rebounds.Â

- With the loss, Greensboro sits in the #5 seed in the conference, one game behind Methodist for the #4 seed.
- Greensboro can clinch a spot in the tournament with a win on Saturday at Pfeiffer or losses by Brevard and William Peace.
- This is the first loss to Mary Baldwin since the 2024 USA South Championship game.
- Greensboro shot just 10-16 from the free throw line.
