GREENSBORO, N.C. — Greensboro College volleyball (20-4, 10-3 USA South) defeated Southern Va. (8-8, 7-4 USA South) 3-1 on Wednesday, winning 25-23, 25-14, 21-25, 25-11. Greensboro used a 9-0 run in the fourth set, including eight straight service points, to move from 13-5 to 22-5. Senior

Greensboro finished with 52 kills to Southern Va.'s 30 and hit .171 while Southern Va. hit .072. Greensboro also recorded 87 digs compared with 64 for Southern Va., and its serving showed up in the fourth set with a 9-0 run that included eight straight service points. Shiflet supported the attack with 15 kills on a .343 hitting percentage.
Greensboro closed the first set at 25-23, converting set point when
Larkin Baxley put away a kill from
Emory Johnson after Southern Va. had pulled within 24-23. Earlier, Greensboro built an 8-2 advantage during
Madison Bozarth's service turn, which included a
Dilynn Norris kill and a Bozarth ace. Southern Va. later moved ahead 18-17, but Greensboro responded down the stretch with kills from Norris and
Enjoli Allen before
Grace Young's ace set up the finish.
Greensboro broke open the second set with
Madison Bozarth at the service line, scoring six straight points to move from an 11-10 lead to 17-10. Bozarth had an ace during the stretch, while Baxley and Shiflet added kills. Greensboro closed with four straight points on
Grace Young's serve to finish a 25-14 set win.
Greensboro's main push in the third set came after falling behind 16-10, as
Larkin Baxley's kill and assisted blocks by
Abigail Leo with Norris and
Skylar Rokov cut Southern Va.'s lead to 16-14. Leo added kills at 18-15 and 19-17, and a Southern Va. setting error later brought Greensboro within 19-18. Southern Va. answered with the next four points, including three straight service aces, and Greensboro fell 25-21 in the set.
Greensboro took control of the fourth set with a 9-0 run that moved the score from 13-5 to 22-5, including eight straight service points from Bozarth. Shiflet started that surge with a kill, and Greensboro added finishes from Norris, Leo, Rokov and Allen during the stretch. Johnson closed the set with a service ace as Greensboro finished off a 25-11 set win.
