GREENSBORO, N.C. — Greensboro (2-4, 1-2) fell to Belhaven (3-3, 2-1) 19-10 on Saturday. Greensboro scored all 10 of its points in the first quarter and were held scoreless over the final three quarters.
Greensboro produced 198 passing yards and 102 rushing yards, while Belhaven had 136 yards on the ground and completed 13 of 17 passes for 146 yards. The difference showed up in red-zone results, where Greensboro scored on one of three trips and Belhaven scored on two of three, despite a Greensboro interception that ended one Belhaven red-zone possession. Both defenses recorded five sacks, and Greensboro has recorded at least five sacks in two consecutive games. Greensboro also converted two fourth downs in Belhaven territory.
Cameron Turner's 36-yard touchdown run on fourth-and-5 with 26 seconds left helped Greensboro finish the first quarter ahead 10-0.
Jacob Cook opened the scoring with a 33-yard field goal, then added the PAT after Turner's touchdown. Greensboro converted both fourth-down attempts and held Belhaven without a first down in the quarter.
Greensboro was held scoreless in the second quarter, and Belhaven scored on touchdown passes of 30 and 14 yards to take a 12-10 lead. Greensboro's defense produced four sacks and
Kamauri Davis blocked an extra-point try, while
Sincere McIntyre added kickoff returns of 35 and 34 yards. Greensboro's late drive reached the Belhaven 23, but a holding penalty, a sack and an incomplete fourth-down pass led to a turnover on downs at the 29.
Belhaven's only score of the third quarter came after a Greensboro interception was returned to the Greensboro 6, and the touchdown plus PAT put Greensboro behind 19-10. Earlier, Greensboro's defense kept Belhaven off the scoreboard on an 11-play drive that reached the Greensboro 7, with the series including a
Jordan Bennett sack and ending on
Allen Redford's goal-line interception for a touchback. Greensboro moved back across midfield on its final possession, highlighted by
Cameron Turner's 32-yard completion to
Sincere McIntyre, and ended the quarter at the Belhaven 34.
Greensboro was held scoreless in the fourth quarter despite moving inside Belhaven's 15-yard line on two possessions.
Cameron Turner completed passes of 19, 18 and 24 yards to
KJ Brown, but Greensboro's chances ended on downs at the Belhaven 10 and with a fumble at the Belhaven 14. Belhaven converted a fourth-and-1 on its final drive and ran out the clock to finish off Greensboro, 19-10.
