Kensly Stewart broke out for a 28-point afternoon in Greensboro College Women's Basketball's (4-8, 1-4) 87-76 win over Meredith College (2-10, 4-6). Stewart's 28 points are a new career high.
Greensboro got off to a hot start, going on a 10-0 run to begin the contest. Meredith eventually got going and scored 19 first quarter points, but Greensboro led 27-19 after the first period. The Pride hit 4 three-pointers in the quarter and went 5-6 from the charity stripe.
The Avenging Angels played well in the second quarter, outscoring Greensboro 20-17. They were led by Jaymie Bevins, who scored 18 points on the afternoon. The Pride offense got back rolling in the third period, scoring 29 points as Steward and fellow freshman,
Tatum Bradford, took control on the offensive end. Greensboro would take a 73-57 lead into the fourth quarter.
Despite being outscored 19-14 in the final stanza, Greensboro held Meredith at bay and earned their first conference win of the season.Â
Greensboro shot 40% from the floor on the night, including 14 three-pointers as a team. They also went 11-14 from the free throw line. For Stewart, she went 6-12 from long range and 10-20 from the floor, tying her season high of 50% shooting.Â
Bradford finished with 18 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 blocked shots, while
Jenx Ervin had 10 points and 7 rebounds. Ervin leads the team with 90 rebounds on the season.
Notes:
- Stewart's 6 made three-pointers are tied for 7th in a single game in program history since 2000-2001.
- The team's 14 three's are tied for fourth in a single game.
- Stewart fell just 2 points shy of the first 30-point game since Karli Mason scored 35 points on 1/15/2023.
- Greensboro's bench out-scored Meredith's bench 39-12.
