Softball Splits Friday Games to Advance to Bracket Two Championship

Rocky Mount, NC - Greensboro Softball split two games on Friday afternoon against NC Wesleyan and Southern Virginia to advance to the final day of the first round on Saturday.

Game One: NC Wesleyan 4, Greensboro 2

Game one saw the Pride lose to host NC Wesleyan 4-2. Greensboro got on the board first with an Ella Ebert RBI single in the first inning to go ahead 1-0. The Bishops came back with 3 of their own in the bottom of the second to take a 3-1 lead.

After a run in the fourth for the Bishops, Greensboro cut the deficit to 4-2 with a run in the sixth inning when Raven Taylor singled home Anna Frazier. Unfortunately that's all the Pride would get as the Bishops put Greensboro in a win or go home scenario against Southern Virginia later on Friday afternoon.

Ella Ebert pitched strong out of the bullpen, going 4.1 innings with 1 strikeout.

Game Two: Greensboro 9, Southern Virginia 6

The Pride came back with their season on the line and scored 9 runs to advance to Saturday's bracket two championship. The win included a 6-run fourth inning that saw freshman Jordyn Tong hit a grand slam to break the game open.

The Knights did battle back to within three after trailing 9-3 going into the sixth inning. Raina Hampel would shut the door on the Knights, however, and secure a big win for Greensboro.

Ella Ebert had a 2-hit game with 3 RBI, while Sophie Conger had a 2-hit game with a run scored. The offense totaled 9 hits and 6 walks. Senior Katie Allison hit her first career home run for the Pride in the second inning.

Ebert got the start in the circle and went 5.0 innings with 2 strikeouts. Hampel would earn her third save of the season.

Greensboro will now play NC Wesleyan on Saturday with a chance to advance to the conference championship series next weekend. They will need to beat the Bishops twice on Saturday in order to play in their third consecutive conference championship series. Game one on Saturday begins at 2:00 pm.
