Fayetteville, NC - Greensboro Softball took down USA South rival Methodist in a two game sweep on Saturday on the road.
Game One: Greensboro 14, Methodist 0
Game one was all Greensboro, asÂ
Raina Hampel and
Madison Guard combined to throw a one-hitter in the circle and the bats scored fourteen runs. Hampel got the win, going three innings, and Guard took the final two frames to secure the shutout.
The Pride scored five first inning runs, including an RBI triple by
Ivy Ray. With the triple, Ray breaks the school record for career triples with fourteen. Ray also has nine triples on the year, leading NCAA Division III. The inning also included the second home run of the year from
Ella Ebert.
Greensboro scored five more runs in the third inning that saw Ray double home two runs. In the fifth, the Pride scored another four runs and would run-rule the Monarchs.Â
Jillian Vitamanti went 3-4 on the game with three runs scored while
Anna Frazier went 2-2 with two runs scored. Ebert had a two-hit game while
Olivia Hyatt went 2-3 with two RBI.
Game Two: Greensboro 4, Methodist 0
Game Two was much closer than game one, but the Pride shutout the Monarchs again to claim the sweep. In the circle,
Ella Ebert got the win by going five innings with six strikeouts.
Raina Hampel earned the two inning save.
Up 2-0 in the seventh, the Pride got an RBI walk from
Jordyn Tong and an infield hit from
Ella Ebert that scored
Raven Taylor to make the score 2-0. Hampel would slam the door in the bottom of the seventh to seal the victory.
Jillian Vitamanti went 2-2 in game two, raising her season batting average to .607.
Raven Taylor went 3-4 with two runs scored, while Ebert collected two more hits in game two.Â
The Pride will travel to NC Wesleyan on Sunday in a doubleheader with the Battling Bishops. Game one begins at 1:00 pm.
