Buena Vista, VA - Greensboro Men's Lacrosse traveled to Southern Virginia on Saturday for the first round of the USA South Tournament and fell 22-13.
The Knights got out to a 5-1 lead after the first quarter, including a 4-0 run midway through. The Knights outscored the Pride 7-4 in the second quarter to take a 12-5 lead into the half.
Greensboro opened the second half with two straight goals, one by
Chas Gilroy and the other by
Alex Mattoon, to make the score 12-7. SVU would keep it's seven goal lead however, as they scored four goals in the quarter, as did Greensboro. The Pride struggled again in the final period to stop the Knights offense, getting outscored 6-4.
Justin Barry, who led the USA South with 55 goals in the regular season, scored 4 goals on the afternoon. Gilroy had 3 goals, while
DiMaggio Wilson and
Leo Ringelberg had 2.
Will Pailthorpe and Mattoon each had 1 goal.
Quinton Solomon led the team in ground balls with 9, including 15 face-off wins. Riley Taff earned 3 caused turnovers.
The Pride finish the season 6-12, earning their second straight trip to the conference tournament.
