Greensboro, NC - Greensboro softball split a doubleheader against Meredith College on Saturday, taking game one while dropping game two.
Game One: Greensboro 7, Meredith 1
Ella Ebert was the big story in game one, as she threw a complete game with a career high ten strikeouts. She allowed five hits and just two walks.Â
Down 1-0, Greensboro took a 2-1 lead in the third thanks to multiple errors by the Avenging Angels' defense. Then in the fifth, the Pride added three runs that included a two-RBI triple by
Ivy Ray and a sac fly from
Raven Taylor. For Ray, it was her eighth triple of the season, leading the USA South and NCAA Division III.
They then added two runs in the sixth inning to up their lead to 7-1, and Ebert would finish off Meredith in the seventh to secure the win. At the plate, Greensboro totaled seven hits.
Katherine Connell and
Ivy Ray had one extra-base hit each while
Olivia Hyatt had a stolen base.
Game Two (F/9): Meredith 7, Greensboro 6Â
It was an extra-inning affair in game two as Meredith earned the win to split the doubleheader. Down 5-3, Greensboro tied the game 5-5 in the sixth inning after a
Jillian Vitamanti RBI single followed by an
Ivy Ray RBI single.
Meredith scored one in the seventh to take a 6-5 lead, but the Pride battled back in the bottom half and tied the game again on an
Ella Ebert RBI single. Despite having an opportunity to win it in the eighth, Greensboro couldn't capitalize on their chance and, in the ninth, Meredith scored one to take a 7-6 lead. Greensboro again had a chance to at least tie the game in the bottom of the ninth, but couldn't scratch across a run.
In the circle, Ebert got the start and went two innings, giving up two hits and no runs.
Raina Hampel pitched a solid six innings out of the bullpen, striking out three hitters.Â
Ivy Ray had a three hit game, as did Ebert.
