Pride Softball Splits Doubleheader with Cross-Town Rival Guilford

Greensboro, NC - Greensboro softball hosted Guilford College on Wednesday and split a doubleheader with the Quakers.

Game One: Greensboro 9, Guilford 1

The Pride came out hot in game one and run-ruled Guilford 9-1. Greensboro scored two runs in the first inning on a Jordyn Tong RBI single followed later by a Katie Allison RBI fielder's choice. They then scored two more in the second inning on an Olivia Hyatt RBI fielder's choice and then a double steal that scored Anna Frazier.

After runs in the fourth and the fifth, Greensboro scored three runs in the sixth to end the game. Ivy Ray tripled home Frazier followed by a Hyatt RBI single. The winning run scored on an Ella Ebert RBI groundout. For the game, Greensboro had eight stolen bases on the game. Jillian Vitamanti and Frazier had three each.

Ebert got the start in the circle and pitched brilliantly. She went all six innings and gave up five hits, one run, and had four strikeouts. Anna Frazier had a three hit game at the plate while Ivy Ray and Katherine Connell had two hits each.

Game Two: Guilford 7, Greensboro 3

Guilford was able to take game two after a well pitched game by Shiloh Gray. Gray went all seven innings for the Quakers. Guilford took a 3-0 lead after the third inning and then scored four more in the fourth.

The Pride offense came to life late but it wouldn't be enough to come from behind to beat the Quakers. Jillian Vitamanti had a two hit game along with an RBI. She also had one stolen base. Katherine Connell had a double, raising her season total to eleven. 

By playing in game two of the doubleheader, Ivy Ray became the all-time leader in games played in Greensboro softball history at 166 games played.

The Pride will be back at home on Saturday against Carolina University with game one beginning at 1:00 pm.
