Pride's Valiant Effort Falls Short Against SVU in USA South Conference Tournament

Buena Vista, VA - The Greensboro men's basketball team traveled to Southern Virginia on Tuesday night for the first round of the USA South Conference Tournament and fell 80-77. Isaiah Pruett finished his Greensboro career with his third straight game of scoring at least 30 points.

The game was tight the entire way, as the Knights took a 36-33 lead into halftime. The Pride would storm out to a second half lead, however, and found themselves ahead for most of the second half.

Greensboro had a six point lead on three different occasions, but couldn't quite pull away enough to put the Knights away for good. SVU took a 62-60 advantage with just over 6:00 to play, but an Isaiah Pruett three-point shot gave Greensboro the lead right back. The teams went back-and-forth trading the lead until two SVU free throws led to a 9-3 run to take a 77-71 lead.

With less than a minute left, the Pride were down by just two points. With under ten seconds left, two free throws by Pruett cut the Knights lead to 78-77. SVU's next inbound led to a quick layup, and Greensboro couldn't get a clean shot off in the final second of the game as SVU sealed the win and advances to the conference semifinals.

Greensboro came into the game coming off two big home wins against Brevard and Methodist to clinch a spot in the tournament. Despite the loss, the Pride saw much improvement over the final two weeks of the season.

Outside of Pruett's 30 point performance, senior Grant Thompson scored 16 points in his final game with Greensboro. DJ Jackson scored 12 points and had 9 rebounds, while Patrick Malott also had 12 points, going 4-4 from long range.

Greensboro finishes the season at 6-20 and 5-9 in conference play, earning their second straight trip to the conference tournament.
