Ten Run 9th Inning Propels Softball to Win Over Roanoke; Fall to TCNJ in Game One

Greensboro, NC - In what were the first two games of the season at Barber Park on Sunday, Greensboro softball split a pair of games against The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) and Roanoke.

Game One: TCNJ 6, Greensboro 2

In the first game of the day against TCNJ, Greensboro fell 6-2. TCNJ got three runs in the second inning on three errors by the Pride defense.

Greensboro scored a run in the third on an Ivy Ray RBI single, and then put another run on the board in the sixth on a Sophie Conger RBI double. TCNJ scored three runs in the seventh inning, however, and pulled away to a 6-2 lead that they wouldn't surrender.

Ivy Ray had a three hit game as did Ella Ebert. Conger and Raven Taylor had one hit each. Anna Frazier pitched all seven innings, giving up three earned runs.

Game Two: F/9 Greensboro 13, Roanoke 4

Greensboro won an extra inning game in the second game of the day against Roanoke. The Pride scored ten runs in the ninth inning to earn the win.

Greensboro got out to a 3-0 lead in the fourth inning. Anna Frazier had a bunt single RBI followed by a Katherine Connell RBI single. Later, Sophie Conger had an RBI sac fly.

The Maroons scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the game and send it to extra innings. Neither team could score in the eighth, but Greensboro busted out for ten runs in the ninth inning to blow the game open. Conger and Ray both had RBI triples in the inning.

Ella Ebert got the start in the circle and went six innings and gave up three runs. Raina Hampel came out of the bullpen and was credited with the win, while Madison Guard earned the save.

The Pride will go on the road to Averett on Wednesday for a doubleheader with the Cougars beginning at 2:00 pm.
