Greensboro, NC - The Greensboro men's soccer team took on Piedmont on their home turf Friday afternoon and tied the Lions 1-1.

It was an early goal by Axel Garcia-Avila that put the Pride on the board first in the 2nd minute of action. Garcia-Avila got a long deflection near midfield and took it all the way to the box and fired in his 2nd goal of 2024.

The Lions had an opportunity to even the score on a penalty kick in the 58th minute, but senior goalie Cristian Del Cid came through with a huge save to keep the Lions scoreless.

Greensboro held on to the 1-0 lead until the 71st minute, when Piedmont's James Cash came off the bench to score a header into the net to even the score. 

As time wound down, Piedmont had a few open looks at the goal but failed to capitalize as the game ended in a 1-1 tie.

For Greensboro, Cristian Del Cid came through with 7 saves on the contest. Piedmont out-shot the Pride 20-8 for the game.

Greensboro is back at home on Sunday when they host LaGrange College at 12:00 pm.
