Softball Falls to Pfeiffer in Championship Series

Misenheimer, NC - It was a hard fought battle between the top two teams in the USA South Conference on Friday as Greensboro traveled to Pfeiffer for the USA South Conference Championship series. Pfeiffer would come out on top two games to none to win the title and advance to the NCAA Tournament.

Game one:

Lauren Engel took to the circle in game one for the Pride and she pitched a solid 6.0 innings. Engel gave up 4 runs, with 3 of those coming in the sixth inning. The offense battled Falcons' starter Kali Morton, who dominated hitters all year long in the USA South. The Pride got 2 runs off of Morton and had the tying run in scoring position in the seventh. However, Makyiah Simmons hit a rocket right at the left fielder for the final out of the game.

Greensboro totaled 5 hits in game one with 4 walks. Kelsey Craven homered in the sixth inning to tie the game 1-1, and Madison Dillner came through with an RBI hit in the seventh inning.

Game Two:

Game two was another pitcher's dual as Katherine Charlton, the USA South Rookie Pitcher of the Year, took on the Pfeiffer lineup. She was outstanding in game two, going 7 innings and giving up 1 earned run. After Pfeiffer got 2 runs in the first inning, Charlton was dominant and kept her team in the game.

With the score 2-1, Pfeiffer added a third run in the 6th inning to make the score 3-1. Greensboro got the tying run to the plate in the frame but couldn't score. The Pride then went in order in the bottom of the 7th as the Falcons cliched the victory.

Ivy Ray had a two hit game while Makyiah Simmons, Kelsey Craven, and Alexis Sox all had one hit each.

The Pride finish the season with a 28-15 overall record and had a 13-5 conference mark. The Pride had multiple players named to the USA South All-Conferene team and have now had three straight years of 25+ win seasons.
