Greensboro, NC - It was a milestone day for Greensboro Women's Lacrosse as they defeated William Peace 12-8 to secure their first trip to the USA South Conference Tournament since 2019.
It was a tight contest throughout, but Greensboro maintained control from the start. They got out to a 2-1 lead early in the first quarter and would out-score the Pacers 4-2 after quarter number one. The teams would trade goals throughout the duration of the first half, and the Pride would take a 5-4 advantage into halftime.
William Peace fought back in the third quarter, as they scored three goals to tie the game 7-7. With their season on the line, Greensboro went on a 5-1 run to finish the game and take home the win.
Rosanna Espinosa-Ponce scored a team-high 6 goals while
Sabrina Speake scored 3.
Genesis Chinchilla,
Gabby Heck, and
Samiah Mitchell all scored 1 goal each.
Defensively,
Grace Dobson had 3 caused turnovers, while Speake, Espinosa-Ponce, and
Tonya Williams all had 2 caused turnovers.Â
Greensboro out-shot the Pacers 33-29 while also having five less turnovers. The Pride had 26 ground balls on the contest.
The Pride will travel to Methodist on Tuesday for the first round of the USA South Conference Tournament. Â
