Greensboro, NC - The Greensboro Women's Lacrosse team scored their third win of the season and second win in a row on Tuesday by defeating Warren Wilson 12-6 at Pride Field. It was a day dominated by
Rosanna Espinosa-Ponce and
Sabrina Speake, as the two helped lead Greensboro to victory.
Espinosa-Ponce tied her career high in goals, scoring 9 of the team's 12 goals for the contest. Senior
Sabrina Speake had a big night as well, dishing out 6 assists, which is a career high.
Greensboro scored the first three goals of the game, all scored by Espinosa-Ponce. With the score 3-1, Espinosa-Ponce and
Emily Gearhart scored back-to-back goals to extend the lead to 5-1.
The Owls were able to shrink the Pride advantage to 5-3, but two more goals at the end of the first half by Greensboro put them back ahead by four goals.
The Pride pulled away late thanks to goals by Gearhart and
Alexandra Carefoot to put Warren Wilson away for good. The Pride out-shot the Owls 35-21, and had 30 ground balls compared to 19 by Warren Wilson.
Espinosa-Ponce also had 6 caused turnovers and 8 ground balls.
Grace Dobson had 6 ground balls, while
Gabby Heck had 4.
Carly Walton got the win in goal, coming through with 4 saves.
Greensboro plays their final regular season game of the year on Saturday. The Pride will celebrate their seniors for Senior Day at 12:45.Â
