Baseball Wins First USA South Series Of The Season Over Mary Baldwin

Staunton, VA - The Greensboro Baseball team (13-6) took two out of three games in the first USA South Conference series of the season this past weekend against Mary Baldwin. They fell in game one 14-7, but came back to win game two 23-8 and took game three 18-4.

Game One: 

Despite scoring seven runs in game one, the Pride couldn't overcome Mary Baldwin's fourteen runs on fourteen hits. Aaron McInvale got the start on the mound and went six innings and giving up seven runs. Matthew Simpson took the loss out of the bullpen. On the offensive side, Greensboro scored seven runs on five hits and five walks. Mary Baldwin also had five errors on defense.

Game Two: 

The bats tore through the Fighting Squirrels pitching in the second game as they scored twenty three runs. Big innings included a seven run fourth inning and a ten run seventh. Catcher Myles Vacharasin went 4-5 with five RBI and three runs scored. Brody Gardner went 3-5 with four RBI, and Evan Sykes went 2-2 with five RBI and four walks. 

Game Three:

The Pride scored eighteen more runs in game three to take the series. The pitching was also strong, as Michael Richards went six innings and striking out two batters. On the offensive side, Nick Marshall led the way with three hits including a homerun. Marshall now has six homers on the season. Cooper Ferguson got the start at second base and collected three hits and three RBI. Kai Hayen also had a big game, going 2-4 with three runs scored and two RBI.

Greensboro will host Methodist University this weekend with game one scheduled for Saturday afternoon at 4:00 at Truist Point.
