Asheboro, NC - It was a beautiful Sunday afternoon at McCrary Park as Greensboro Baseball (7-0) defeated Mount Saint Mary (0-5) 20-8 in seven innings. This is the best start to a season for Greensboro Baseball in their 30 year history.
It was once again a stellar offensive performance for the Pride as they scored 20 runs for the second time in three games. They totaled 57 runs in the three game series against the Knights.Â
Greensboro took a 2-1 lead in the first inning after a double steal that saw
Brody Gardner steal home while
Nick Marshall stole second base. Later,
Drake Carrick ripped a double to right field to give the Pride a 3-1 advantage. Later,
Evan Sykes walked with the bases loaded to score
Adam Weber to make it 4-1.
With the score 4-3, Mashall hit a double off the center field wall to drive home Gardner. Carrick then hit another double to drive in two more runs to make it 7-3. The floodgates opened up as the Pride pulled away in the middle innings. Sykes had a career game, hitting two homeruns in his final two at-bats to give him 8 RBI on the game.Â
Sykes would go 4-5 with a walk to along with his two homers and 8 RBI.
Adam Weber went 3-4 with 4 runs scored and 2 RBI. Gardner would go 4-5 with 4 runs scored and 2 RBI. Gardner and Marshall had 3 stolen bases each.
Michael Richards got the start for Greensboro, going 4.1 innings to get the win. He improves to 2-0 on the young season.
Jacob Howell and
Ronnie Brandon pitched out of the bullpen for the Pride.
Greensboro hosts Washington & Lee on Tuesday at Ted Leonard Park. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
