Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball Loses to Averett Saturday Afternoon

Greensboro, NC - The Greensboro College men's basketball team suffered a tough home loss to Averett University, 74-59, on Saturday afternoon at Hanes Gymnasium.

The Pride had a balanced scoring effort, with DJ Jackson and Isaiah Pruett leading the way with 12 points each. Grant Thompson also made a significant impact, recording 10 points and 11 rebounds to secure his third double-double of the season. Despite their contributions, the Pride struggled to keep up with Averett's offensive firepower.

Averett was led by Mason Mitchell, who poured in 19 points, including an impressive 5-for-6 performance from beyond the arc. Jamison Graves and Clay Hodges also chipped in for the Cougars, scoring 16 and 13 points, respectively. The trio's efficient scoring kept the Pride on their heels throughout the game.

The first half was a struggle for Greensboro College offensively, as they shot just 32% from the field and managed 23 points. Meanwhile, Averett capitalized on their opportunities to build a 16-point lead heading into halftime.

In the second half, the Pride showed remarkable resilience and improvement. They shot an impressive 70% from the field and 66% from three-point range, finding a rhythm offensively that eluded them earlier. However, the early deficit proved too steep to overcome, as Averett maintained control and closed out the game.

Despite the loss, the Pride showed flashes of their potential, particularly in their second-half surge. They'll have an extended break to regroup before returning to action. Greensboro will face the Warren Wilson Owls at Hanes Gymnasium on December 8th, with tip-off scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
