Greensboro, NC - The Greensboro Men's Basketball team (6-9, 2-2) were looking for their 3rd straight win on Sunday, but fell to the defending USA South Conference champions NC Wesleyan 66-61. It was a tight game throughout, and both defenses played outstanding in this one.
The Pride got off to a hot start, as they led 18-8 midway through the first half. The Bishops clawed their way back to take a lead late in the half, but then Greensboro quickly re-took the lead as the teams went into the halftime break.
The Bishops defense really turned in on in half number two, holding the Pride 2-8 from behind the arc. Both teams played physical defense, but it was the play of Justin Burden for NC Wesleyan that made a huge difference in the game. Burden hit 4 three pointers and scored all of his 14 points in the second half.
Matthew Brown helped keep Greensboro in the game despite early foul trouble. Brown scored a game high 19 points on 8-10 shooting.
Grant Thompson had a strong game inside, collecting 8 rebounds and scoring 11 points.
As the game came down to the wire, Brown had a huge three point play that brought the Pride to within 2 points. Later with a chance to tie,
Tim Boulware missed a three point shot from the corner and the Bishops would get the rebound. They would then seal the win with two free throws.
Isaiah Pruett scored 8 points and had 5 assists on the afternoon.
Tim Boulware scored 7 points and had 5 rebounds.
The Pride will travel to Brevard College on Wednesday. Tip-off is set for 7:00 PM on the campus of Brevard College.
