Mount Berry, GA - After today's games being rearranged around inclement weather, the Greensboro College Baseball team was able to play a Saturday doubleheader with Berry College (GA) at William R. Bowdoin Field. While the Pride would drop Game 1 19-9, they were able to bounce back in Game 2, coming away with a two-run win, 7-5.
Game 1
Greensboro took an early lead in the top of the first, when Senior
Connor Morehouse (Kansas City, MO) grounded out to second base driving in Freshman
Brody Gardner (Asheboro, NC) and later in the batter order Junior
Cameron Edmonds (Whitsett, NC) smacked a RBI to third allowing Junior
Adam Weber (Mebane, NC) to score, putting the Pride up, 2-0. However, through the fifth inning, the Vikings would score 8 straight runs, until Edmonds recorded another RBI to pull his team to within 8-3. At the end of the bottom of the sixth inning, Berry had increased their advantage to 13-3. Greensboro mounted a comeback in the top of the seventh inning as Freshman
Gavin Fleming (Gibonsville, NC) and Weber combined for three RBI's and Morehouse hit a three-run homerun, pulling the Pride to within 13-9. Unfortunately, the momentum did not last and Greensboro would fall to Berry by a score of 19-9.
The Pride were led by Morehouse who finished the game 2-4, with a double, HR and 4 RBI's while Sophomore
Samuel Hayen (Fort Lauderdale, FL) went 3-4 with a double and 2 runs.
Game 2
The Pride fell behind early and as they headed into the fifth inning, they trailed, 2-0. Hayen got Greensboro on the scoreboard with a sacrifice fly to center field, bringing home Junior
Drake Carrick (Lexington, NC) to trim the lead to one run. The Knights would go back up by two runs, but that is when the Pride began to find momentum with Sophomore
Moses Lopez (Fort Lauderdale, FL) reaching on a fielder's choice for the RBI and that was followed by an RBI single from Morehouse to tie the game at 3-3. Lopez would come to the plate again in the seventh inning and hit a two RBI double to take a three run lead, 6-3 and in the eighth inning, a Weber RBI completed the scoring as Greensboro held on for the win, 7-5.
Gardner finished the game 3-5 with 2 runs, while Lopez recorded three RBI's in the game. Senior
Sam Peddycord (Kernersville, NC) picked up the win on the mound, with Edmonds coming in to earn the save.
The two teams will meet again tomorrow in the rubber match. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00pm
