Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Greensboro comes up short to SUNY-Oneonta, 16-15

Greensboro, NC - Just a few days days ago the weather on College Hill was sunny and in the 70's, but today, as it always does in March in the Southeast, the temperature changed to 37 degrees with rain mixed with snow.  However, that did not deter the Greensboro College Men's Lacrosse team from hosting SUNY-Oneonta (NY) in a Sunday afternoon match-up between two teams looking for positive momentum.  However, despite five goals from Senior Austin Abourjilie (Greensboro, NC) amd four goals a piece from Junior William Beyer (Greensboro, NC) and Grad Student Seth Mandryk (Stonewall Manitoba, CA) the Pride would come up one goal short and fall to Red Dragons by a final score of 16-15.

Goals by Mandryk amd Abourjilie put Greensboro up 2-0 in the first quarter, but seven minutes later SUNY-Oneonta was able to answer and tie the game,  The Pride would regain the advantage as the quarter was coming to an end, as Beyer found the net twice putting Greensboro ahead, 4-2.  Unfortunately, the Red Dragons would score seven goals in the second quarter to the Pride's two, by Abourjilie, to take the lead into the half, 9-6.  SUNY-Oneonta began the third quarter with two straight goals, but the Greensboro offense came alive as Senior Dominic Scali (Randolph, NJ), Junior Aaron Larios-Neubert (Beaverton, OR) and Beyer found the net three straight times.  In the fourth quarter, the Pride tied the game after two goals from Abourjilie and another by Mandryk.  The Red Dragons would proceed to take a two goal advantage with 4:13 remaining in the game but Abourjilie scored his fifth goal of the day to pull Greensboro to within one goal.  As the game was winding down, the Pride had a man-up opportunity and Abourjilie was able to fire a shot off with three seconds left but it hit the post and Greensboro would fall, 16-15.

The Pride will return to action on Thursday March 16th as they face Sewanee in Charlotte, NC.  Face=off is scheduled for 4:00pm.
