Ferrum, VA – Greensboro College's Men's Basketball team (3-7) hit the road Monday afternoon as they traveled to Virginia to face off against the Ferrum College Panthers (11-1). This was the Pride's last non-conference road contest before the start of conference play. Coming into the game, Greensboro was looking to snap a three-game losing streak. Despite the loosing streak the Pride have been getting fantastic play from Tim Boulware, who dropped 14 points in their last contest against Maryville.
This game would not start out in the Pride's favor. Through the first 5 minutes the Pride would only hit one shot and find themselves down 10-2. The Panthers' defense was doing just enough to keep Greensboro from hitting their shots. The shooting woes would continue through the middle of the first half and Ferrum would take a 21-8 lead with 10 minutes left.
The Pride's defensive strength began to take over in the final 8 minutes of the first half. The Pride would hold the Panthers to 10 points in the later stages of the first half. During this defensive run Greensboro would finally see their shots fall to go on a 13-9 run to close the half. The Pride would battle back from the early struggles to pull within 11 points at the break, as they would be down 32-21 at the half but with the momentum on their side.
Greensboro would come out of halftime with a chance to keep pulling themselves back into the game. The second half would start out just how the Pride wanted, as they hit their first two shots of the half to cut the Ferrum lead to single digits. However, Ferrum would respond by hitting their next four shots in a row and playing lock down defense. After the first 7 minutes of the second half, Ferrum had pushed their lead to 43-25.
Greensboro would not back down, as they would continue to play hard and come up with stops on the defensive end. Griffin Powell and Tim Boulware would shine offensively and helped the Pride claw back into the game. With 10 minutes to go, Powell would hit a big three pointer to make the score 45-36, cutting the lead to 9. However, Ferrum would feel the momentum building on the Greensboro side and quickly responded. The Panthers would start to hit their shots and lock up the Pride in order to push the lead back up to double digits with 7 minutes to go.
Despite Greensboro's comeback attempts, they were unable to recover from the slow start in the beginning of the game. The Pride would make it interesting and pull close in the end, but were unable to fully complete the comeback. Ferrum ended the game with four players with double digit points and would win 65–59.
The Pride will have a few days to regroup before they head back out on the road again. Greensboro's next game will take place on Friday, December 22 against Division I UNC Charlotte for an exhibition game. Tip-off scheduled for 1pm, and be sure to watch the game live on ESPN+.
