Box Score Greensboro, N.C. - The Greensboro College Women's Soccer team continued their trend of playing low-scoring and close matches to begin the 2022 season.

This match would be no different as the Pride would play a Bob Jones University Bruins squad that was a perfect 3-0 on the season and had outscored their opponents by a 14-3 margin. Holding the Bruins in check would be no easy task but the defenders for the Pride have played well in keeping the games close while the offense continues to mature. This type of a game would be a signature style victory for this young, but feisty Greensboro squad. 

The first half of the game would begin with both teams struggling to find good scoring chances. The half would end scoreless as both teams managed only two shots during the first 45 minutes.

The second half would provide more of the same as shots on goals were hard to come by until the game changing moment at the 52:05 mark which would leave the Pride looking up at the Bruins on the scoreboard. A healthy kick from distance by the Bruin's Anna Grace Abrams, ricocheted the ball with force off the top crossbar. A scramble ensued and a defensive miscue by the Pride allowed Abrams to retrieve and sneak a kick by the Pride goalie for the tiebreaker.

Unfortunately for the Pride, this deficit proved too much to overcome as none of the Pride's three second half shots would score the equalizer. The 1-0 final would leave the Pride with a 0-2-1 season record. Bob Jones University would remain undefeated.

Mike Johnston, Head Coach for the Pride, had these comments following the game: "Our energy was not great early in the game. With this team, we need our substitutes to bring an elevated intensity when they enter the game, and they did that. The second half was better, but we have got to be better in critical situations. I thought or defenders played well this afternoon."

The Greensboro Pride Women's Soccer team will play Bridgewater on Wednesday, September 14th at Pride Field at 4:00PM.
