MISENHEIMER, NC. -- The Greensboro College softball team battled Pfeiffer in a doubleheader on Saturday in a clash for the top of the USA South Standings. Game one saw Cheyanne Cox pitch a gem for the Pride, minus a mistake in the 2nd inning. Caiti Mickles hit a 2-1 pitch deep over the left field fence to put Pfeiffer ahead 2-0, and that would prove to be the winning score. Cox went six innings from the mound, surrendering just three hits and the two earned runs in the losing effort.
Greensboro mustered five hits, but could not cross home plate, leaving eight runners on base for the day, including leaving the bases loaded in the top of the 6th to end the rally attempt. Pfeiffer's pitcher, Ashlyn Kennedy threw a complete game shutout to improve to 11-1 on the year.
In game two, Pfeiffer jumped all over the Pride, going up 12-0 by the 3rd inning, and would go on to win 12-1.
Kailey Walker went 2-3 with a RBI-single to center to bring in the Pride's lone run in the 5th inning.
Greensboro now stands at 18-10, and will next will host NC Wesleyan for a pair of conference contests at Latham Park on Tuesday (April 12) at 2pm.
