GREENSBORO, NC--Greensboro's softball team was in action against NC Wesleyan on Tuesday afternoon at Latham Park for a pair of conference games. Game one saw
Cheyanne Cox tie a school record with her 48th career victory as Greensboro won 3-0. Cox also struck out 14 Bishops, including her 600th of her storied career, which came in the top of the 7th inning.
Cox was able to get out of bases loaded jams in both the 3rd and 7th innings en route to the complete game shutout.
GC was only able to amass three hits for the game, but the Pride led throughout after
Alexis Sox hit a sacrifice fly to give Greensboro a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st.
Hannah French brought in another run on a sacrifice fly in the 6th, and then
Kailey Walker's RBI-single to bring in
Olivia Davidson was another insurance run.
In game two, NC Wesleyan broke the ice with a pair of RBI-singles from Alexis Whitfield and MK Raynor to make it 2-0 Bishops in the 4th inning.
Caroline Stanley sprinted out an infield single to lead off the 6th inning, and
Kassie Simmons' blast over the left field fence tied up the ballgame. However, that would be the only sign of life from the Pride offense, which could produce only three hits in game two.
Abby Todd for NC Wesleyan answered with a RBI-single in the top of the 7th to score Skylar Walker on a play at the plate, which proved to be the winning score.
The Pride now sit at 19-11 on the season, and will stay at home against Averett this Saturday for Senior Day in a doubleheader starting at 1pm.
