Pride Rolls over Averett on Senior Day

GREENSBORO, NC--The Pride softball team swept Averett in a doubleheader on Saturday in a conference clash.  Prior to the games, Taeya Moloney, Hannah King, Caroline Stanley, and Cheyanne Cox were honored for their contributions to Greensboro College and to The Pride softball program.

Game one saw Cheyanne Cox pitch a gem for the Pride in her school record 49th win.  She pitched a complete game (6 innings), allowing just three hits and a walk, while striking out 12 Cougars.  Kailey Walker was a tough out all afternoon, going 3-4 with two runs scored and a RBI-single in the 5th that put Greensboro up 5-1.  Kassie Simmons came to the plate in the bottom of the 6th with the bases loaded and a chance to end the game via run-rule.  She hit a moonshot to right center that put Greensboro ahead 9-1, and delivered the game one victory.

In game two, the top of the lineup stayed hot for the Pride, as Caroline Stanley went 4-4 with two runs scored in her home finale.  Meanwhile, M'Kenzie Davis was a homerun short of the cycle in her 3-4 day that included a RBI-double in the 1st inning and a RBI-triple in the 3rd that put GC up 3-1.

Kassie Simmons went the distance from the mound, throwing a complete game, and allowing just one run.  She effectively utilized her defense, allowing just seven hits spread out over 7.0 innings pitched in the Pride's 5-1 game two win.

Greensboro now stands at 21-11, and will next will head to Southern Virginia  for a doubleheader on Wednesday (April 20) at 2pm.
