BUENA VISTA, VA--The Pride softball team swept the Knights of Southern Virginia in a double header on Wednesday. Game one saw
Cheyanne Cox brush aside the Knights, giving up a lone hit, and surrendering one base on balls through seven innings. She struck out 14 Knight batters, as GC cruised to a 7-0 victory.
Cox also punished SVU from the plate, as her single in the 4th inning brought
Brittany Apgar around to score.
Madison Dillner then followed with a RBI-single to bring Cox in and put the Pride up 2-0 early.
In her next at-bat, Dillner hit a 2 RBI-triple to clear the bases and score
Ivy Ray and
Hannah French, and Greensboro led 4-0. Then with a 5-0 lead in the top of the 7th,
Kassie Simmons hit her 11th homerun of the year to give the Pride a 7-0 win.
In game two, the Pride pounded the Knights for nine runs on 15 hits in the 9-4 win.
Brooke Kinley gave GC a spark, going 3-4 with four RBI, including a 2-RBI double in the 4th to put Greensboro up 3-1. She also hit a 2-RBI triple in the 6th inning to bring
Hannah French and Emma Musick around to score and put the Pride up 7-2.
Kassie Simmons snuffed out any SVU attempt at a comeback, by throwing a complete game, and allowing four runs, and striking out nine Knights.
With the two wins, Greensboro now sits at 23-11, and will conclude the regular season at Meredith this Saturday at 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm.
