GC Splits with Monarchs

GREENSBORO, NC--Greensboro's softball team rolled past Methodist in game one of a doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon (April 6th) at Latham Park.  Cheyanne Cox went all seven innings for the Pride, striking out 13 Monarchs from the mound to get to 10-4 on the season.

Cox also was a menace from the plate, getting the Pride off to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 2nd inning with a RBI-single to bring in her battery mate, Catcher Alexis SoxHannah French kept the Pride rolling with a clutch two-out, 2-RBI double to left center to bring in two more runs and put GC up 3-0.

Caroline Stanley and Madison Dillner each had a RBI-single in the 4th and 5th innings, respectively, and Greensboro would cruise to a 6-0 win.  Greensboro would convert nine hits into six runs to get to 18-7 after game one.

In game two, the Pride found themselves in an early hole, trailing 2-0 after two innings.  Kassie Simmons got GC started with a two-out, RBI double deep to right center in the 3rd to get the Pride on the board, and to cut the Methodist lead in half.  She would come around to tie the game on a Monarch error, but Methodist broke the game open in the 4th inning.

Methodist scored four runs on four hits in the 4th to take a commanding 6-2 lead, but  Kailey Walker's RBI-single in the bottom of the 4th brought the Pride to within 3.  The Pride left a runner on as Kassie Simmons flied to to center to end the inning.  GC pounded out 12 hits for the game, but ended up leaving 10 runners on base, which was the difference in the game, as Methodist escaped with a 8-4 game two win.

Greensboro now sits at 18-8 on the season, and will next head to Pfeiffer on Saturday at 1:00 PM for a key doubleheader in the conference race.
