GREENSBORO, NC--Greensboro's women's lacrosse team made great strides, but fell short 13-10 to Warren Wilson on Wednesday afternoon.
Selena Najera opened the scoring for the Pride at 13:10 of the 1st period, the first of her five goals on the day.
She would get another one past the goalie at 11:16 of the 1st period, and after a
Rosanna Espinosa-Ponce goal, the Pride and Owls were tied at three after the 1st period.
Dylan Edwards scored two of her eight goals to increase the Owl lead back to 5-3, but the Pride would not go away quietly.
Espinosa-Ponce found the back of the net again at 7:12 of the 2nd period to make it 6-4 Warren Wilson. Three more Owl goals gave Warren Wilson a 9-4 lead at the break, but the Pride roared back in the 2nd half.
Cassie Hindes found Espinosa-Ponce in front of the net, and Ponce sent it past the goalie to bring the Pride back to within four at 9-5 just 33 seconds into the 3rd period.
Despite falling behind 12-5, Greensboro turned up the pressure to force turnovers to get back into the game.
Selena Najera and Espinosa-Ponce each scored twice more to bring GC back to 12-9, but the Pride's rally fell just short. Warren Wilson was able to run out the clock, and escape Pride Field with a 13-10 victory.
The Pride scored a season-high 10 goals, and outshot the Owls 29-21 for the game. Greensboro was also able to grind out 33 ground balls, and will look to build on the lessons learned as they will head to Meredith for a tough test against the Avenging Angels on Saturday at 3pm.
