STAUNTON, VA. -- The Greensboro College baseball team finished a three game road series with Mary Baldwin with a commanding 18-8 win on Sunday afternoon. GC broke out the bats in the 4th, 6th, and 9th innings to score all of their 18 runs on 12 hits.
Trailing 1-0 in the top of the 4th, Sam Hayen came to bat with the bases loaded. He delivered with a 3-RBI triple, then came all the way home on a Squirrel error, one of six on the day.
In the 6th, Cam Edmonds hit a 2- RBI no-doubter with Braxton Rupp on base to push Greensboro ahead 6-3. Sam Hayen followed by hitting one into the cheap seats to make it 7-3. Later in the inning, Adam Weber delivered a 2-RBI base hit to bring in Aaron Smith and Drake Carrick, and increase the lead to 9-3, forcing a pitching change.
Alex Morales then got his lone hit of the day, but it was clutch as it brought in two more Pride runners to make it an 11-3 ballgame.
Mary Baldwin fought back with five runs in the 8th inning, before Greensboro slammed the door in the top of the 9th.
Sam Hayen again entered the batters box with the bases loaded, and he again made MBU pay. His 2-RBI single brought in Morales and Weber, and GC was again on top 13-8. Drake Carrick and Aaron Smith got into the act with RBI base hits and GC was now up 16-8. Luke Pegram's 2-RBI double brought in the final two runs on the day, and the Pride looked to Alex Trepper to close out the Squirrels in the 9th.
He did so after facing just four Squirrels in the 9th, and Greensboro improved to 10-15 on the year after back-to-back road conference series wins.
Sam Hayen ended the day 3-5 with six RBI, while starting pitcher, McKinnon Martinelli went 7.0 strong innings, surrendering just one earned run and striking out five batters in the win.
Greensboro will stay on the road by next heading to Lynchburg on Wednesday for a 4pm contest.
