Pride Rolls to Victory over Mary Baldwin

STAUNTON, Va -- The Greensboro College softball team won a pair over Mary Baldwin on Tuesday afternoon.

In game one, Greensboro was able to overcome an early deficit after falling behind 1-0 in the 3rd inning.  Kassie Simmons tied things up in the 4th inning with a RBI-single, then Alexis Sox put the Pride up for good with a sacrifice fly to bring in Kailey Walker.  Cheyanne Cox's RBI-single in the 7th increased the lead to 3-1, and Cox closed out the victory from the mound.  GC boasted seven hits en route to the victory, while pitcher Cheyanne Cox was dominant from the mound, going all seven innings with 12 strikeouts.

Game two saw a low scoring affair until the top of the 7th saw Greensboro take control.  Kassie Simmons hit a 2-run homerun in the 4th to put the Pride ahead 2-1, and then would knock out another with a 3-run homer in the top of the 7th as part of a four run inning.  Greensboro would go on to win by the score of 6-1, with Simmons throwing a complete game with only one walked batter.

The Pride (15-5) will hit the diamond with a 1 p.m. doubleheader against Salem this Saturday (April 2nd) at Latham Park.
